Hi friends!
I hope you’re doing well and staying warm through this cold winter season! I attended the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Philadelphia last week, and I wanted to share some key takeaways with you.
🏆 Innovation in Soccer Coaching
The energy at the convention was incredible. They offered classes on everything from tactical positioning to player psychology. What stood out most was the coaches' openness to trying new approaches. Everyone I spoke with acknowledged the same challenge: U.S. soccer struggles with improving soccer IQ, and coaches are actively looking for solutions.

🤝 New Connections in the Soccer Community
I'm grateful for all the thoughtful conversations and new connections I made. The future of soccer starts with coaches who put in the work to improve their craft. Coaches must constantly learn, innovate, and inspire their teams to strive for excellence. If you're reading this and we met in Philly, thank you for the great discussion!
⚽ Soccer is America's Most Played Youth Sport
Here's something that surprised many people I talked to: soccer is the #1 most played youth sport in the United States. Yet the men’s team consistently underperforms on the international stage. One of the main reasons? Soccer IQ. Kids aren't learning the game deeply enough, and coaches don't have enough practice time to fill those gaps.
🚀 Pilot Programs: Low-Risk, High-Impact
Improving sports IQ is one of the main reasons I built Sportlingo. Coaches use the coaching dashboard to make lessons, and the kids work on the lessons in the mobile app. I’m happy to offer a free pilot program with your team! These programs are a very low-risk way for your club to try our software and see real results.
Benefits of Pilot Programs:
Better retention: There's substantial data showing kids forget most of what they learn in practice. Sportlingo helps them retain information through spaced repetition and gamified lessons.
Better performance: Kids perform better when they understand the game. Higher soccer IQ translates directly to better decision-making on the field.
If you're interested in running a pilot program with your team or club, I'd love to discuss how we can make it work for you. You can reply to this email or schedule a call here.
